Katie Damer
Community Learning Disability Nurse, Adult Learning Disability Service Tameside and Glossop
I am currently working as the Hospital Liaison Nurse at Tameside Hospital, here I help hospital staff make reasonable adjustments to make sure people with learning disabilities get the treatment they require in a timely manner and give direct support to people with learning disabilities to help them understand and navigate the health care system.
I feel that this programme will help me to work on my reflective skills allowing me to use the skills that I excel in to improve my team, at the same time as giving me better insight into the areas that I require further learning and improvement in to enable me to progress further in my role. I also act as a supervisor for some HCA colleagues, and for student nurses and I feel the fellowship will improve my leadership skills in this area to enable me to provide quality supervision. Joining workshops with other learning disability nurses working in both similar roles and those that differ from my own will give us the opportunity to share ideas for improved patient care and engagement that I can bring back to my own team.
