Karen Taylor
Named Nurse, Cambeck Close Short Breaks Service, Manchester
I am named nurse at a short breaks service for adults and children with learning disabilities and complex health needs. My role ensures the service user’s holistic needs are met and delivers person-centred care during a meaningful respite. We deliver person-centred care for each individual, as we work with families and other professionals to know the service user’s preferences, routines, health needs and other things. My role allows me to develop and use clinical skills. At times, my role entails being nurse in charge, leading the team, providing support, making decisions and facing challenges.
I think this programme will enable me to increase my confidence and develop more/improve my leadership skills. I am a person/professional always wanting to develop new skills and knowledge to enable me to do the best I can.
This programme will benefit me, the team and the people who use the service as one of the outcomes is to practise methods and approaches to create workplaces that are person centred, conducive to the delivery of high quality care and that provide a supportive place for staff to work. I am hoping to improve our service for service users and families by identifying changes we could make.
