Hayley Kirkham
Ward Manager, Royal Stoke University Hospital
My name is Hayley and I have been a registered nurses for 5 years. I previously worked in the care sector for 18 years, working in a multitude of areas.
I commenced my ward manager role on ward 230 in April 2022 as a secondment and was then successful in gaining the permanent position in September 2022. Before I started on ward 230, I was on secondment as ward manager on a winter escalation ward.
Ward 230 is a 36 bedded unit which cares for gastroenterology and hepatology patients whose conditions can be very complex at times. As a team we are passionate about excellent multi-disciplinary working.
I lead a very large team of staff that work hard and they all play an important role. We are all unique in who we are, but ultimately, we all want to provide the best care we can.
I hope that participating in this fellowship will allow me to continue to embed excellent standards of practice by focusing on developing a caring culture within the team. This will then lead to improved patient safety and an enhanced patient experience.
