Ward Manager, Royal Blackburn Hospital, East Lancashire Teaching Trust

I am currently a ward manager on an acute respiratory ward. As an Inspire Improvement Fellow I would like to develop my skills as a facilitative team leader in order to improve the culture on the ward for patients’, their relatives and the staff themselves.

Workplace culture is important to me and I am looking for innovative, fresh and new ideas to promote a culture that ensures that the patients are cared for in a safe, effective and personal manner. I am especially interested in exploring how I use the patients’ voice to create change and drive improvement.

Finally, staff wellbeing and engagement is also a key area that I am keen to develop. I want the staff on the ward to feel that they are part of the team, that they can challenge current practice and find solutions to issues that arise. I would hope that the fellowship can help me explore the staff viewpoint and thus enable the creation of a workplace culture where they are happy to work and support each other.
