Presenting the Professor Jan Dewing Memorial Award
Last week saw the presentation of the Professor Jan Dewing Memorial Award. It was an opportunity to celebrate Jan’s work, and the 2024 winner of the the award, Catherine Malia and the highly commended Melissa Balcorta. The award is supported by Jan’s partner, Jane Stokes.
We were delighted to welcome Angie Titchen to present the award and talk about Jan, both as inspirational academic and as a committed nurse.
Catherine works at St Gemma’ Hospice in Leeds, she plans to use the prize to develop an arts-based approach to advance care planning at the hospice. With training from the organisation No Barriers Here, the aim is to improve services and access for marginalised groups and populations that don’t usually use their services.
Gladys Dolina, a colleague of Melissa Balcorta, attended and collected the highly commended award on behalf of Melissa. Melissa was nominated by her colleagues for her unwavering commitment to transforming care delivery and her inspiring leadership.
