Zoe Robinson
Learning Disability Nurse, Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Bracknell
I am a community learning disability nurse working within the Berkshire Intensive Support Team. We are a multi disciplinary team who support people with learning disabilities who may be at risk of a placement breakdown and/or admission under section.
I work closely with my colleagues, people with learning disabilities and those around them to support them in the community reducing the risk of admission. My role includes initial assessments, risk assessments and care plans along with planning MDTs for people and care treatment reviews if needed.
Due to COVID-19 I spent a short time in our inpatient service, supporting daily observations and care. I was also a peer vaccinator for the 2020 flu campaign and am currently undergoing training to support COVID vaccinations for people with learning disabilities in Berkshire.
I have been in my current role for approximately 16 months and although I feel I do my job well, I feel that a programme like this will help me gain the confidence and experience I feel I lack when working with new people and professionals across the health and social care sector.
I believe that this opportunity can help me gain awareness of and confidence in leadership. I hope this will improve my practice and ability to support my team and people with learning disabilities in my current role and prepare me for potential future and possible leadership roles.
