Community Learning Disability Nurse, West Adult Learning Disability Team, Redruth, Cornwall

I am a newly qualified registered learning disability nurse and social worker, working for the West Adult Learning Disability Team in Cornwall. The multi-disciplinary team includes; nursing, psychology, occupational therapist, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, senior support workers and admin.

The Adult Learning Disability Team support adults over the age of 18 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through assessment, treatment and support for people who find it difficult to access other health services. We also offer support and advice to other health services to support the individual to ensure their physical health needs are being met.

Through my role as a learning disability nurse we follow the following pathways: PMLD – Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, BtC – Behaviours that Challenge, Dementia, Epilepsy.

The fellowship programme will allow me to have bigger conversations with my colleagues and the care teams with whom I work. I am hoping to develop the skills and confidence to be able to demonstrate, lead and empower others to have difficult conversations and challenges values and attitudes.

I want to develop my knowledge and tools of how I can lead and facilitate change within my team. I believe I have the enthusiasm, persistence and willingness to enable me to do this.
