Sue Hill
RBCS Project Manager and Facilitator
Sue trained at Guy’s Hospital in the last cohort to qualify as an SRN back in the 80s, Sue has had a long and varied nursing career. Starting in orthopaedics, moving to St Christopher’s Hospice, she has had many interesting and diverse roles. Obtaining the district nurse qualification, led to many years spent in the community and her love of community nursing has never left.
Moving into various management roles expanded her horizons to eventually working nationally with the Institute of Innovation and Improvement. Here she worked from its inception on the Productive Community Services programme and also developed the ‘15 Steps Challenge in the Community’, a guide which focuses on seeing care through a patient or carer’s eyes and exploring their first impressions.
In 2014 she was given her Queen’s Nurse award recognising her commitment to the community. From there, time in service improvement and in NHS England was followed by a move to Health Education England.
Never losing sight of her community roots, a research fellowship with HEE gave the opportunity to consider the benefits of the District Nurse Specialist Practitioner Qualification, the research was published in 2020.
Various roles in HEE developed a good understanding of students and educational needs and the challenges faced in the nursing workforce. Her final role in this organisation was as Senior Nurse for the SE region.
She was a member of the RCN District and Community nurse forum committee for six years and chair until December 2023.
Sue was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Winchester in 2023.
Sue is delighted to be working on the Resilience Based Clinical Supervision project with the Foundation of Nursing Studies.
