Katherine Jones
District Nurse Team Leader, Kendal, South Lakes District Nursing Service
Hello, my name is Katie Jones and I have worked in the community for over 15 years and have managed a variety of teams across the north of England, currently working for Morecambe Bay in Kendal where I have been a District Nurse Team leader for over 5 years. I hold a specialist qualification in district nursing and prescribing for patients that are on the caseload. I hold a practice teacher qualification and teach the practical element of the Community Specialist Practitioner course yearly in Morecambe Bay. I live in the Lake District and love running, cycling and open water swimming and feel lucky we don’t have to drive far to get an awesome view!
Both teams I manage are large and cover a large geographical area with a mixture of younger and older demographics. We undertake several clinical skills including end of life care. We also support the care homes in the area and we are currently improving the work we do with them to offer our support further. We work as part of the larger MDT across the hospital sites to improve discharges back into community to ensure they are safe and timely.
We have a mixture of bands in the team including bands 3, 5, 6 & 7. And because of where we are situated in the south lake district, this does bring staff from other parts of the country to live and work, and therefore, we get a good mixture of experience and knowledge in the team.
I’m hoping this fellowship will give me some new insights into enhancing a positive team culture and I am looking forward to using my creative side and will value this protected time away from my workplace. Overall, I’m excited about the improvements that could be made to direct patient care and how the team’s function could also be improved.
