Natalie Kensett
Behavioural Charge Nurse, Oxford Health NHS Foundation
I am a Behavioural Charge Nurse (RNLD) and work in Oxfordshire Intensive Support Team. We are a specialist health service which complements the specialist services provided by the adult Community Learning Disability Teams in Oxfordshire and the Community Learning Disability Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (LD CAMHS) Team. The Intensive Support Team (IST) is a community-based service, providing focussed assessment and intervention to children, young people and adults with learning disabilities who are challenged by complex behavioural difficulties. The Intensive Support Team provides a service where people live and work, with the aim of making recommendations, to maintain that person’s current environments and support (if appropriate to do so). The aim of the IST is to support the prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions, preventing placement breakdowns, enhancing quality of life and supporting the wellbeing of service users, staff members, families and carers.
I feel that this fFellowship and supporting programme will benefit me but helping build my leadership skills and confidence when working with my team and individuals referred to us and their families. I hope that it will provide me with more skills and approaches to help create workplaces that are person-centred and allow me and my team to provide high-quality care. I feel this will benefit my team and those we support by allowing me to be the best I can be at my job; ensure I am supporting those I work with and supervise to the best of my ability and ensure that we can provide the best care we are able to do at that time and aim to improve the individual’s quality of life.
