Imogen Wright
Learning disabilities Community Nurse, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
I am a newly qualified nurse, and am currently undertaking my preceptorship with NSFT. I am a learning disability community nurse, currently based in Oulton. The flexible role means I support individuals for a number of reasons from positive behaviour support creation to engaging the service user in desensitisation material. I act as lead professional, co-worker, duty worker and adviser to others around me. Working within a multi-disciplinary team made up of psychologists, OT, SALT and support workers, we can collaboratively work to meet the service user’s wants, needs and desires in a holistic and person-centred way.
Community nursing is constantly evolving, and the skill set required too. Within our team, nursing is beginning to engage in low-level psychology work, and I would therefore like to enhance my knowledge and expertise in all areas of nursing. Allowing my knowledge to grow, I can reciprocate this within the wider MDT team and help promote best practice. I am incredibly eager to learn as I am at the beginning of my nursing journey.
I am also hoping to increase my confidence and decision-making skills in certain situations following my role as a duty worker. I would like to be confident in challenging poor practice.
