FACILITATING AND COLLABORATING

Facilitation is a key part of the work of FoNS that essentially involves helping others to be more effective, achieve their goals and enable them to develop skills to facilitate future change.

We provide facilitation in three ways:

•  Through direct telephone and email enquiries

•  Through the projects and initiatives that we support and fund as part of our advancing practice work

•  Though consultancy where we work as external facilitators of practice based research and/or development initiatives

Nurses in practice who are leading practice-based research and development initiatives particularly value this aspect of our work. They often feel isolated in their roles and seek help from FoNS because of the reputation we have for supporting nurses. Facilitation from FoNS helps practitioners explore their project plans in more detail, highlights the evidence base for effective leadership and evaluation of change and suggests other resources and support that may be available. Working collaboratively with like-minded partners is the most effective way of achieving development on a more strategic level and influencing policy. FoNS is currently involved in a number of exciting collaborations, which aim to strengthen commitment to practice-based development and research. FoNS also encourages regular dialogue between similar organisations to explore ways in which joint working would enable more effective use of resources.
